Snacks for Students Drive

Excelsior University’s community engagement group is partnering with Albany High School and Troy High School for the third annual Snacks for Students collection drive. The initiative fights food insecurity in the classroom by collecting and donating healthy snacks to students each month of the 2024-2025 school year.

If you would like to help the Snacks for Students program, please consider donating healthy items such as granola bars, bottled water, cereal bars, fruit snacks, or crackers via the drop boxes found in the lobbies of each Excelsior building, or by sending donations directly to Excelsior for distribution via an Amazon Wishlist. Items can be set up using the “subscribe and save” feature for easy monthly contributions that are shipped directly to Excelsior’s mailroom. Snacks for Students deliveries will be made through June 2025.

According to Save the Children, “hungry students are more likely to have less energy, be more easily distracted and less interested in schoolwork, have lower math scores, repeat a grade, and come to school late or miss school entirely.”

Teachers try to help by supplying their students with snacks they can access in the classroom to help combat hunger throughout the day, but they are unable to keep up with the demand themselves. To assist them, Excelsior began the Snacks for Students Drive in 2022, delivering snacks to Albany and Troy High Schools to combat food insecurity.

The Community Engagement Group thanks the Excelsior community for its continuing support of this initiative and for helping high school students become the next generation of higher education students!
