About the Center for Social Justice

The Center for Social Justice at Excelsior University believes that all people have the right to pursue economic, social, educational, and professional opportunity, that there is a shared responsibility to ensure that nothing stands in the way of this pursuit, and that this stands on the four principles of inclusion, access, participation, and human rights.

Guided by a vision to advance an inclusive and equitable society that provides access to education, lowers barriers to success, and creates opportunities for fulfillment and impact, the Center for Social Justice supports an inclusive, equitable, and just experience for all learners in their development as the next generation of leaders.

Our Why

At Excelsior University, we believe that our strength as a community lies in valuing and leveraging our diversity of perspectives, experiences, knowledge, ideas, and skills. The Center for Social Justice focuses on lifting all voices and communities, regardful of their origin, context, culture, values, beliefs, interests, capacity, and development.

Our How

The Center for Social Justice procures its vision through:

  1. Its systematic facilitation of multi-perspective/experience learning, sharing, and dialogue.
  2. Strategic partnerships for community impact, thought leadership, and educational access.

Our What

To prepare and support Excelsior’s and its community’s participation in our critical justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work, the Center for Social Justice facilitates intentional, inclusive, systemic, and systematic intercultural development. To anchor this effort, Excelsior University pursues the ever-evolving goal of becoming a multicultural organization, which according to Jackson & Holvino’s Multicultural Organization Development Model refers to:

a) INCLUSIVITY: An organization that strives to include members of all groups by treating them fairly, offering them equal access to opportunities, and representing them at all organizational levels and functions;

 b) CONTRIBUTION: An organization that leverages the diversity of knowledge and perspectives its different groups bring to shape its strategy, work, management, operating systems, and its core values and norms for success;

 c) IMPACT: An organization that seeks to improve itself and enhance its competitive advantage by advocating and practicing social justice and diversity, equity and inclusion within and beyond the organization.
