The City of St. Petersburg officially start Pride Month by raising the St. Pete Pride flag for first time today Thursday, June 4, 2026, outside City Hall. This free, public event was an opportunity for residents, visitors, allies, and LGBTQ+ community members to come together in celebration of diversity, inclusion, and equality.
Why It Matters?
The Pride flag is more than a symbol—it represents visibility, acceptance, and the ongoing commitment to creating a community where everyone can live authentically and feel valued. Raising the flag at City Hall demonstrates St. Petersburg’s support for its LGBTQ+ residents and recognizes the contributions they make to the city’s culture, economy, and civic life.
Community events like this help foster understanding, strengthen connections among neighbors, and remind us that inclusion benefits everyone. By showing support for Pride, we help build a city where all people are welcomed, respected, and empowered to thrive.
Event Highlights
St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch participated in the city’s Pride Month kickoff on June 4, 2026, during the annual LGBTQIA+ Pride flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. This year marked the first time the flag-raising event and the St. Pete Pride pop-up celebration were held on the same day.
Mayor Welch joined City Council Chair Lisset Hanewicz and St. Pete Pride President Dr. Byron Green-Calisch in addressing attendees outside City Hall. During his remarks, he reaffirmed the city’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging. He emphasized that St. Petersburg remains dedicated to fostering a welcoming and supportive community where all residents feel valued, respected, and safe.
Representatives from Excelsior’s Florida Site were also in attendance at the event, joining community members and local organizations.
