First, I’m pleased to announce that I recently co-authored (with key universities) an article after being asked by the American Society of Pain Management Nursing titled, “Disparities, Inequities, and Injustices in Populations With Pain: An ASPMN Position Statement,” published in Pain Management Nursing. This article explores significant disparities in pain care that marginalized populations experience due to systemic factors like implicit bias, socioeconomic barriers, and limited access to equitable healthcare. It advocates for justice-informed approaches to pain management, aligning closely with our JEDI goals in healthcare education. The piece underscores the importance of integrating JEDI principles at multiple levels—individual patient care, community engagement, and policy advocacy—to ensure fair and high-quality pain management for all patients. I also have another article for recommendations, that I will send if accepted for publication.

This work has strengthened my commitment to embedding these critical insights into our nursing curriculum, particularly in preparing students to recognize and address healthcare disparities with empathy and cultural competence. I look forward to our continued collaborating on ways to incorporate these JEDI-aligned strategies into our educational programs.

Additionally, I wanted to share that I volunteered as a mentor at the Connecticut Black Men In White Coats Youth Summit on November 9, 2024. This inspiring event, held at The Palace Theater and UCONN Waterbury, CT, brought together students, parents, educators, and healthcare professionals to encourage underrepresented youth to pursue careers in medicine. Participating in this initiative was impactful and reinforced our commitment to fostering justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within healthcare. I believe that engaging in events like these can positively influence the future diversity of healthcare professionals.
