Greetings from the Center for Social Justice.
National Civility Month is celebrated annually in August to support people in treating each other respectfully and kindly. The month was established by the International Institute for Civil Leadership and highlights the importance of empathy, open-mindedness, and active listening. The Center for Social Justice encourages you to celebrate this month by engaging in dialogue and finding strength and support in our community as well as in opportunities to share our and learn about others’ concerns, perspectives, experiences, and ideas. We remind you to utilize your communication guidelines in your team meetings and to take the assigned training on Brainer – 9 Skills for Communicating and Collaborating Across Differences.
Consider additional ways to participate in National Civility Month, such as:
- Respectfully complimenting a stranger
- Donating to a local food bank
- Writing a thank you note
- Leaving a positive review for a local business
- Helping a neighbor with a chore
- Paying for the person behind you in line
